Join us at PhD_Post.doc Talks on the 16th of May 2024 at 5 PM at Uhelna!
PhD_Post.doc is here again! Thanks to the UNIQORN Association, the platform for PhD students and postdocs at our university to showcase their research, achievements, and suffering, was resurrected.
During the talk and discussion (5 PM – 6 PM), the SensUs competition will be in focus.
The assignment - the initial idea - reaching the goal!
Come to listen to a story of a UCT student team participating in the 9th year of the SensUs international student competition! It is for the very first time that a team from the Czech Republic participates in this competition!
Their assignment: building a continuous biosensor to measure creatinine for diagnosis of kidney malfunction.
What is their journey from the initial idea to the design of the (hopefully) winning biosensor?
What is it like to multitask in the lab while finding sponsors and doing your marketing?
Come and be inspired by the lecture about a big project led by the Biosensor Student Association. We invite you to take part in their journey and find out how (not) to design a biosensor.
Following that, it's time for the refreshments and meet-and-greet!

"I'm studying the field of Chemistry and Technology of Materials with a specialization in biomaterials at the UCT Prague. I was drawn to chemistry and biology in high school, but I didn't want to go into medicine, and when I got into electrochemistry and working with sensors during my bachelor's degree, I was quite enthralled. In my master's degree, I got the opportunity to participate in the SensUs competition and now I'm here."
Daniel Křížek
"I'm studying the final year of Biotechnology and Bioengineering. My thesis deals with Clostridium and their ability to save our world from the climate crisis. :) I became interested in biosensors and the SensUs competition during my internship in the Netherlands and at the end of last May, I decided to put together a team for this year's competition. In my spare time, I engage in all kinds of sports activities. Among other things, I have been a member of the UCT Prague football and futsal team since the first year."
Eva Vogelová
"I'm studying Biochemistry and Microbiology at UCT Prague. As part of my thesis, I'm researching the life cycle of the Hepatitis B virus in collaboration with IOCB. In addition, I'm involved in music, I play in the UCT Prague Orchestra and I'm also a fan of all kinds of recreational sports activities.
I first encountered biosensors during my internship at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in the Laboratory of Functional Bio-Interfaces under Dr. Lísalová. This topic intrigued me and when I had the opportunity to continue studying it, I was clear about it."
